On Glitchbear and “Yellow Eyes”
The most illogical distinction made in the history of FNaF theorizing.
# # #
This post is a short one, and dare I say easy to understand as well.
Before I begin with the actual lore talk, a little context: "Glitchbear" is the fan-given name of the 8-bit Fredbear character from FNaF World, the one who guides us throughout the game to achieve the so-called Clock Ending. Similarly, "Yellow Eyes" is the character hidden in the shadows of a black void only seen in the intro to the game and the outro of the Clock Ending. He is called Yellow Eyes because you can only see his eyes, which are yellow.
Why these two characters are not two, but one.
On paper, the link between the two may not be immediately clear, but if you have ever played or just watched a walkthrough of FNaF World you'll see that your first instinct will be "these are the same person." The same color eyes already make it obvious enough, and the fact that both are involved with the Clock Ending and the things revolving BV sure does hammer in the final nail in the coffin.
For those who have not played FNaF World nor watched a gameplay (or if you simply wanna refresh your mind), here is what's basically going on:
We see Yellow Eyes for the first time when we open up the game, he gives his "I will put you back together" speech directly to us, meaning we're in the POV of BV in this scene. Then we see Glitchbear, someone physically similar to Yellow Eyes (as far as we can tell) who shares the same goal of putting BV back together, thus guiding us to "leave breadcrumbs for him, to help him find his way." Finally we see Yellow Eyes again, once more in the POV of BV, after we've prepared the clocks accordingly to the instructions given by Glitchbear; and he says, "the pieces are in place for you. All you have to do is find them. Rest." The game ends and we're forced to quit. If we boot up the game again, we'll notice that we received a trophy for doing the Clock Ending: a statue of the playable Crying Child character, except this one is not crying.
What are we supposed to get from this? Yellow Eyes and Glitchbear are CLEARLY the same, the only difference is to whom he speaks to. It's purely a change of perspective. He's Yellow Eyes when he speaks to BV, and Glitchbear when he speaks to us, to Adv. Freddy. They're evidently not meant to be separate characters. Glitchbear is simply the reveal of how Yellow Eyes looks when he's not covered in the shadows of the void, and there's no point in denying it. I don't mean it arrogantly, I mean it like, there's literally no rational point– what's the functionality of having two different characters that work for the same thing, are """coincidentally""" both related to Fredbear and BV, and are basically identical in role? They both strive to put BV back together by reuniting his pieces.
Yellow Eyes says he himself will put the pieces back together, but Glitchbear sets up the clocks (or more so, tells Adv. Freddy to do so), and then Yellow Eyes says that the pieces are in place for BV and that ALL he has to do is find them and rest. Ask yourself, what does Yellow Eyes do if he's not Glitchbear? Realistically, NOTHING!!! BRO IS USELESS!! (T_T) He doesn't do what he said he'd do, so what gives? If only he was Glitchbear, then the promise that Yellow Eyes made wouldn't have been empty blabbering, since Glitchbear DID do something to get the pieces in place for BV to rest.
Now there's something I wanna talk about specifically. When I say "both related to Fredbear and BV," the promise made to BV is key to understand what I'm trying to say. Remember "I will put you back together" appeared and was spoken to CC first and foremost by the Fredbear Plush, so the fact that Yellow Eyes says this line and some more from that same speech at the end of FNaF4 connects him to the Plush in one way or another. So let's use our heads here. Isn't Yellow Eyes, who's related to the Fredbear Plush, the same as Glitchbear, who is literally Fredbear and partakes in "fixing" BV, which is what the Plush AND Yellow Eyes both say they'll do? Of course he is.
To illustrate my point, I have drawn this with great hurry and little effort.
Addressing the supposed issue.
There's a reason some people think these are different characters, one little reason. An apparent contradiction... which is nothing more than a misunderstanding of Glitchbear's character. Let's take a look at what the game tells us.
“This is a safe place. This is a sanctuary. But something has gone wrong, and now it can be seen here.” –Yellow Eyes.
“You don’t know as much as I do, but I will tell you that this is a safe haven, a sanctuary. Whatever has gone wrong, we have to fix it. It will be an adventure!” –Adv. Fredbear.
“This is a safe place– a sanctuary. The truth is that there is no safe place. You don't understand that; you were made for one thing.” –Glitchbear.
The idea people argue is that Yellow Eyes and Glitchbear are different characters because one says "this is a safe place" and the other says "the truth is that there is no safe place." Needless to say, this is nonsensical. Both say this is a safe place! The difference is that Yellow Eyes and Adv. Fredbear keep the truth hidden, and Glitchbear reveals it to us. That doesn't prove they're different characters, that only demonstrates that Yellow Eyes lies to BV with the same lie the Adv. Fredbear NPC tells us, before Glitchbear interferes and confesses the truth behind Animdude's back, a truth contrary to him. Because the truth isn't just that the place is not safe, the truth is that it's Animdude's fault, so of course Glitchbear would tell us IN SECRET (this is, of course, part of FNaF World's meta narrative, which is present regardless of whether you fully believe WorldMeta or not). An example of this is Glitchbear's explanation of the game's progression:
“Things don't get more dangerous. You are being played. You are being led through hoops. Meanwhile the puppet-master is laughing at you. You do need to find the Dusting Fields, but not because there is any urgent adventure ahead. Find the clock.”
“Play along for now. You are being pulled on a string for his amusement. Don't enter the glitch yet; you need to go into the mine. Find the clock.”
“Yes, well, everything attacks at random. Doesn't it? The man who pulls the strings is watching. He allows you to progress. Follow the trail that they have created for you; play along. There is another mine you must find before entering the glitched object. Find the clock.” –Glitchbear.
Here, the puppet-master is Animdude; the one who is pulling you on a string is Animdude; the one who allows you to progress is Animdude. It's clear, then, why Glitchbear would reveal this truth in secret, that this supposed sanctuary is no safe place, because Animdude has gone mad and is the thing corrupting FNaF World. Anyway, this is something I elaborated on further in a certain megapost covering multiple topics, so if you want to learn more about this narrative idea go check it out. As for this post, I think I'm done.
As far as I'm concerned, I have properly laid out why and how Glitchbear and Yellow Eyes are the same. Thanks for reading and have a nice day! –Wythos.
